Firstly, “LVP” stands for luxury vinyl plank, and “LVT” stands for luxury vinyl tile. As the name implies, luxury vinyl planks look like planks of wood or hardwood floor, and luxury vinyl tile looks like tile or natural stone. They are individual pieces of vinyl, not sheet vinyl, so they look very similar to the real thing.
Most vinyl luxury vinyls are waterproof or highly water resistant but there are many other advantages:
- Vinyl plank or tile looks and feels very real.
- Waterproof.
- Can be installed on virtually any surface as long as it’s flat.
- Saves money. Generally, this is less expensive versus hardwood or ceramic tile.
- Gives more insulation and soundproofing versus glue down vinyl and laminate.
- Easier on the feet – feels as if you are walking on a real floor.
- Fits into kitchens with cabinets already installed.
- Easy to install. It’s a great Do It Yourself job if you are very handy.
- Super easy to clean and maintain, and most natural cleaners will work. We also carry the appropriate cleaners in our store.
What are the downsides of vinyl plank?
It can scratch especially with heavy objects such as appliances.
If your floor is uneven or wavy a fair amount of prep might be required before installation.
