So you have just had your new floor installed, and it looks amazing!!
It is important to note that as durable as any new flooring claims to be, it is not bulletproof.
When it comes to hard surfaces, hardwood, vinyl plank, cork or laminate, warranties associated with your new floor will be for normal everyday foot traffic. Any floor can be damaged, due to heavy objects being dropped or sharp objects being dragged across the floor, this will not be covered in most warranties.
The easiest way to protect your floor is by attached felt pads under your furniture pieces chairs, dressers, couches etc. The felt pads under chairs in eating or dining areas, typically will wear out faster as the are constantly being moved, so make sure to check on their condition every once in a while.
For kitchen areas, we would recommend a Canadian product called “Glide Guard”. This is a hard-plastic track, that would permanently live under your fridge or stove. Simply click the extra track pieces in front of the appliance and carefully pull the appliance off the first track, onto the second.
Damaged materials for the most part can be replaced if extras are available. This is why it is always a good idea to hang on to extra boxes of material after the installation has been completed. The average lifespan of a colour & style of floor before it is discontinued is about 24 months from its introduction, longer if it is selling well across North America.
